Private James White

 

The background of this man is not known at present.

James White enlisted at Belfast on 5 December 1916. He was described as having a pale complexion, dark hair and brown eyes. He stated that he was eighteen years old, was born in Ballymacarrett, Belfast, and worked as a van driver.

Between 5 and 16 May 1917 he was posted to the North Irish Horse (regimental number 2453). He trained at the regiment's reserve base at Antrim, but was reported to have deserted on 25 August 1917. Whether he subsequently returned to duty is not known.
